Home security starts with you
It doesn’t matter if you have the most expensive security systems installed in your home, you’ll still stand a chance of getting burgled if you don’t take the right steps to prevent such a crime. It’s important that you’re aware of your surroundings, whether that’s the odd guy who walks down the street every week or so, or the man staring at your house from his window, or the friendly neghbour who pops round for a cup of sugar on a weekly basis. Be sure to get an understanding on who the trusted faces are in your neighborhood, and make sure your keeping your valuable possessions out of the spotlight at all times. Nothing expensive should be seen from outside, and if you’re leaving the house make sure you’re always locking doors behind you. Burglars exploit naive people, so make sure you’re not one of them.

Dummy Security Camera – our shrewdest investment
We’ve invested a lot of money in home security over the years, but our dummy security camera which we purchased for less than £10 has to be up there wit the best. It’s essentially a fake CCTV camera that takes AA batteries and flashes constantly to give the impression that the camera is live. Our garage was burgled several years ago, and since we’ve fitted this fake camera we’ve had no problems a all. It’s fitted to the brickwork, and our guests are none the wiser. They all wave to it and believe it’s working camera. We always feel a little bit more secure when we go away for a vacation with this nifty little device, and it has to be one of the best deterrents out there. Sometimes you don’t have to spend lots of on security, a detterent like this is usually enough.
Security checks in your workplace
As your company begins to grow, so will your security concerns, that’s just the way it is for large retailers today. If you’re worried about threats of theft and criminal damage, you may need to invest in greater security, including cameras, sensors, alarms, tags for your products or perhaps even a security guard! You also have to be cautious of threats from the inside, because as you begin to employ more members of staff, you may find that a minority are committing offences in your own workplace. It’s not uncommon for a retail manager to carry out ‘bag checks’ at the end of the shift. Investing in security is one of the only ways to minimise loss, and if you choose the right systems and the right individuals, you can maximise return on investment. When people feel safe and happy when they visit your store, they’re more likely to spend. It’s ‘swings and roundabouts’ as they say in the trade.
Is it wise to own guard dogs?
Guard dogs aren’t always shown in a positive light, and that’s understandable to some degree, after all they can be pretty intimidating. On the other hand, it’s their job to deter people and scare them, and they’re not going to do that in a bow tie with a cuddly toy in their mouth.
Remember, guard dogs are simply just dogs that have been well trained, and popular breads include German shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans and Great Danes to name a few. Any guard dog requires intense training at a very young age, and the saying is certainly true…
“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
In terms of security, a guard dog is a wise investment, but he or she still needs to be loved and treated like a pet, so it’s important to find the right balance between training and bonding.
